My name is Jennifer Dodge. I was born and raised in the Florida Panhandle. I lived in several surrounding cities including Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Miramar Beach, Niceville. I currently reside in Santa Rosa Beach Florida with my son and our family cat. I have had a few careers throughout my life including, flooring sales person, boutique owner, computer networking and web designer but none have captured my heart like Florida real estate. I began buying and selling real estate in 2005 for RE/MAX. I was hooked from the very beginning. My Mother, Julia Dodge and my Father, Danny Dodge were both real estate brokers. Some old timers may remember our flooring store on Racetrack Rd and Mary Esther Blvd named A-1 Floorcovering. I fondly remember listening to them discuss real estate deals in the backseat of our family car. (That was before there were smart phones. You were forced to listen to your parents talking because there was nothing else to do, except occasionally annoy my sister.) So, from the beginning I knew what a FSBO was, what a median price range was, how a VA/FHA Loan worked and how to buy a “fixer-upper”. We spent many hours as a child painting those fixer uppers. You may also remember that 2005 was the beginning of the fall of housing prices leading up to the worst real estate crisis during my lifetime. Boy, let me tell you, I learned A LOT during my first years selling real estate! It was a crash course in contract assignments, bankruptcy sales, speculative buying, huge market fluctuations, short sales, foreclosures and divorce sales. However, despite the hardships of selling homes during the housing bubble burst, I decided to persevere through those tough years, because I truly have a passion for home selling and real estate investments. Those were tough times, but I realized I had a very important role in helping people get out from under predatory loans and negative equity situations. It felt good to negotiate lower payoffs with the lenders and assist desperate families in navigating the short sale process. I have since been able to help several of those family buy a better home in today’s market because they were able to avoid foreclosure.
I stayed in real estate sales in Florida because I believe in the positive effects of home ownership. I truly believe home ownership is a right to be valued and sustained with vigor and pride. Real estate is also a predictable, solid long-term investment, that if managed properly can create immense personal wealth that can be passed down through generations. Owning a home or land in your community also creates communal pride that creates safer neighborhoods and schools.
